About Amal Niccoli 


​Despite popular assumption, there is no person named "Amal Niccoli'," but rather the salon's name is a composite of the names of the two Somerville natives who first established the business back in 1985. The current owner, Lori Pino, has made the salon a staple of Somerville since its purchase in 1991 and its move back to the heart of Ball Square in 1995. Since then, Amal Niccoli has taken pride in hiring and retaining Somerville residents as the majority of its staff, which characterizes its welcoming, friendly environment. Our top priority is our clients' utmost satisfaction, and we continually seek ways to make your vision a reality. 

Core to Amal Niccoli's values is creating beauty with exceptional products. Amal Niccoli only uses the highest quality Aveda and Murad products, two brands that are well-known in the industry for superior results. Aveda creates all-natural, environmentally-responsible products without sacrificing quality in hair and skin care. Aveda products are certified organic, sourced from sustainable or renewable plant-based origins, and do not negatively impact the ecosystems from which they are sourced.

Amal Niccoli offers hair, lash, makeup, tanning and waxing services. Our sister clinic, Kenkodo, directly next store offers additional skin care services including facials, paraffin hand/foot treatments and more!
LORI

Owner

Lori is the owner of Amal Niccoli and KenkoDo. Her interest in cosmetology and hair care began at Somerville High School.  After earning her Associates Degree in Business Management in 1988, she took a leap and moved to California to land a job growing and managing a hair salon for a big Japanese corporation.  A couple years and a wealth of experience later, Lori again returned to Somerville, where she purchased Amal Niccoli in 1991, and ultimately moving the business to its current location in Ball Square. Lori found herself continually interested in health and beauty care, and was particularly drawn to natural ways to improve balance in the body.  This curiosity is what piqued her interest in studying Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing with origins in India (and the basis for Aveda products).  Lori privately studied this medicine for 10 years, and, inspired by the profound effect that herbs could have on health, decided to pursue a formal degree in herbal medicine.  In 2011, she graduated with a Masters degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture.  Shortly thereafter, she built and opened KenkoDo, located next door to Amal Niccoli in Ball Square.  Today, Lori is licensed and certified to perform micro-needling treatment. 

KERRI

Hair Care

Kerri has been with Amal Niccoli since graduating the Somerville High School Cosmetology program in 1988. Being Lori's sister, she helps keep Amal Niccoli running at its finest. Kerri is an incredible baker, they say she is the "Martha Stewart" of Amal Niccoli, and often brings in both savory and sweet treats around holidays for the staff and clients. Her hair talents are second to none, it shows as a re-book is highly suggested to get in her book.

COURTNEY

Hair Care /Lash Extensions

Courtney graduated with her cosmetology license in 2013. After learning a thing or two in other salons she landed at Amal Niccoli in 2016. Not by accident as Lori, the owner, grew up with Courtney's mom and the bond goes back one more generation from there.  Along with providing all hair services, she is also 2x certified in lash extensions and 4 different methods of hair extensions.

BROOKLYNN

Stylist

Brooklynn Higgins is a passionate and dedicated stylist. Her love for hair started early, but it truly came to life during her freshman year at Somerville High School, where she enrolled in the cosmetology vocational program. While still in school, she began gaining hands-on experience in the field. After completing the program in 2024, she officially launched her professional career and has been honing her craft ever since.
Brooklynn offers a wide range of services—from cuts and colors to updos and styles—but she especially shines in color and highlighting. With a natural eye for dimension and brightness, she creates customized looks that enhance each client’s unique style. Her warm, welcoming personality and attention to detail make every appointment a comfortable, confidence-boosting experience.

ANGELICA

Aesthetician

Angelica Vasquez is a highly skilled aesthetician with a unique blend of expertise. Holding a degree in marketing from Suffolk University, as well as a state license in Aesthetics from Elizabeth Grady, Angelica possesses a rare combination of business insight and a deep rooted passion for skin care. With this passion and knowledge she is eager and committed to sharing the beauty of skin care with her clients. In addition she has earned master certifications in key areas such as brow waxing, dermaplanning and advanced facial massage. With a creative marketing background and knowledge of aesthetics, she delivers exceptional skin care solutions tailored to each individual, insuring a radiant and revitalized complexion for all clients.
