Lori Pino, Owner of Amal Niccoli
Lori Pino's interest in cosmetology and hair care began at Somerville High School, where she became a graduate of the third cosmetology course offered at the school. After graduating, she started her career at Leon and Company in Belmont, and then returned to her Somerville roots to work at Hairline, and eventually, Amal Niccoli in 1985. At the same time, she worked towards and earned her Associates Degree in Business Management from Bunker Hill. Upon its completion in 1988, she took a leap and moved to California to land a job growing and managing a hair salon for a big Japanese corporation. A couple years and a wealth of experience later, Lori again returned to Somerville, where she ended up purchasing Amal Niccoli, and ultimately moving the business to its current location in Ball Square.
Lori prides herself on selecting only the best products for her clients. A carrier of both Murad and Aveda products, the salon's focus is on natural beauty and overall wellness. In fact, throughout her career and life, Lori found herself continually interested in health, and was particularly drawn to natural ways to improve balance in the body. This curiosity is what piqued her interest in studying Ayruveda, a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing with origins in India (and the basis for Aveda products). Lori privately studied this medicine for 10 years, and, inspired by the profound effect that herbs could have on health, decided to pursue a formal degree in herbal medicine. In 2011, she graduated from a four-year Masters degree program in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture. Shortly thereafter, she built and opened KenkoDo, a wellness clinic focused on acupuncture, massage, and Chinese herbal medicine, located next door to Amal Niccoli in Ball Square.
